Charging modes explained

When setting how your EV charges, you’ll see two options in the app: Smart and Instant. Here’s what each one means:

charging modes

Smart mode

Smart mode charges an EV to a set level by a set time, using the cheapest available energy. The customer can choose a charge level (e.g. 70%) then a “ready by” time (e.g., 7:15am). We'll handle the rest, automatically charging at the most cost-effective times based on the energy tariff.

Note: A selected charge level can’t exceed the maximum limit set in your EV’s settings (often 80%).

Instant mode

Instant mode starts charging as soon as an EV is plugged in. There’s no scheduling or energy cost optimisation, just simple, direct charging. Customers can switch between Smart and Instant mode anytime.
