Understanding savings

Solar and Battery Savings

Solar and battery savings are determined by comparing current energy costs with what users would likely spend without a solar system. This estimate is based on the cheapest flat rate tariff in their area.

Additional Savings with Optimisation

For users utilising optimisation, extra savings are calculated by comparing current energy costs with those if the battery operated in balance mode.

This is a solar and usage tracking mode, sometimes called “self-sufficiency mode”. Balance mode is where the battery charges when the home produces more PV energy than it uses, and discharges when it uses more than is produced. This mode reduces reliance on the grid and won't import or export unless the battery is empty or full.

Optimisation takes advantage of the user's tariff, usage, generation and weather to take the best possible actions to maximise savings.

Total Savings

The total savings users see are the combined amounts from both solar and battery savings and optimisation, if this is switched on, providing a holistic view of their cost reductions.
